Same UOW India FinTech degree, two sides of the financial ecosystem.

FinTech in action

FinTech isn’t one job - it’s an ecosystem. Companies build the products. Regulators set the rules. Both need people who can speak finance and technology at the same time. That is exactly what a UOW India Master of Financial Technology is built to produce.

So we followed two students into their internships, weeks in. Prajwal sits on the commercial side, helping a private wealthtech firm sharpen its product. Cerin sits on the public side, helping GIFT City’s regulator analyse policy and open new markets. Neither is fetching coffee. Both are already changing how their teams work.

Prajwal

Master of Financial Technology, joined July 2025 · from Pune, Maharashtra · Product Strategist intern at eTon Solutions, a wealthtech firm serving ultra-high-net-worth (UHNI) clients.

An intern in a meeting about a ₹500-crore client - taking notes nobody asked for.

Most interns watch. Prajwal watched the room. While a sales executive pitched eTon’s platform to an ultra-high-net-worth client, Prajwal was reading both faces, tracking what was landing and what wasn’t, and writing it all down.

From a marketing degree and two self-built businesses, into wealthtech product strategy.

Prajwal came to UOW India after a BBA in marketing and a stretch running two ventures - a registered automobile firm and an export business. The goal was specific: product strategy in FinTech. UOW India’s placement support didn’t just find an internship; it found the exact domain and company on the wishlist - eTon Solutions, a wealth-management platform delivering end-to-end services to ultra-high-net-worth clients.

The role puts Prajwal alongside the firm’s Chief Business Officer, working on eTon Alpha - a product the company is adapting from its US base for Indian clients, where investor mindsets differ.

Classroom marketing psychology, turned into a sales flow the firm decided to adopt.

Watching that client meeting, Prajwal saw the pitch going the wrong direction - leading with a long product overview instead of the client’s actual mindset. Drawing on the marketing and product-placement thinking from the degree, Prajwal designed a structured sales flow: how the conversation should open, and what to hit before ever describing the product. The Chief Business Officer liked it enough to set up a meeting with the wider sales team around the new flow.

“I’m not the intern getting bug-fixes or repeat tasks. I’m actually adding value - they’re taking my feedback and bringing me into the business.”

Prajwal, Product Strategist intern, eTon Solutions
A seat at the table - and a clear line to the career ahead.

Weeks in, Prajwal is invited into client meetings, asked for input by senior leaders, and aiming to convert the internship into a pre-placement offer. The bigger arc is just as clear: from product strategist now, to product manager, to product head - the person who bridges the teams that know tech and the teams that know finance.

Cerin

Master of Financial Technology, enrolled November 2024 · six-month internship, May–October · Economic Policy & Analysis division, IFSCA, GIFT City.

The chairperson offered the internship on the spot - after a UOW India project landed in front of him.

Cerin’s capstone project happened to be about IFSCA, GIFT City’s financial regulator. After presenting it to the authority, the chairperson himself said they’d take Cerin on. The formal application and interviews came after; the door opened in the room.

From the classroom to the body that oversees India’s international finance hub.

IFSCA - the International Financial Services Centres Authority - is the regulator for GIFT City, overseeing how India does financial business with the rest of the world. Cerin interns in its Economic Policy and Analysis division, splitting time between independent projects and the division’s live daily work: vetting policies and frameworks, adding suggestions, and compiling the annual and quarterly reports that capture every business operating in GIFT City.

Financial instruments and tech skills from UOW India, applied to a market that barely exists yet.

GIFT City already does aircraft and ship leasing. Cerin went looking for what’s next and landed on space financing and satellite leasing - something only one or two countries in the world currently do. The research, the literature review and a concept note are now under review by the division. Even the manager was surprised the field existed, and started digging into it too. The skills behind it came straight from the degree: a working grasp of financial instruments, plus the technical side - coding, software, and how to use AI properly.

“Transforming theoretical knowledge into practicality is being done here. The things I wasn’t clear about two years back are much clearer now.”

Cerin, intern, Economic Policy & Analysis, IFSCA

A manager’s verdict: “You saved us a lot of money.”

Working through the reports, Cerin flagged errors the team had missed - mismatches running into the millions. The manager’s response stuck: that catch had saved the authority real money. Two months in, the internship has turned an interest in policy into ground-level confidence that this is the career.

The career opportunity

Two students. The same answer to the only question that matters. Behind every enrolment in India is one question: does this lead to a real career? Prajwal and Cerin answer it from opposite ends of the same industry - and both answers are yes.

For the student: You don’t have to choose between building products and shaping the rules around them. A UOW India FinTech degree opens both doors - in private firms and public authorities - and places you close enough to GIFT City to walk in.

For the parent: This is industry working with the university already. A globally recognised ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp of ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp degree, a Western curriculum, small batches with close faculty access, and lower fees than studying in Australia - without your child leaving India.

I’ve learned to speak up, share my ideas and trust that I can add value. Prajwal Master of Financial Technology at UOW India

Questions students & parents ask

Straight answers about UOW India FinTech internships, careers and GIFT City.

Yes. The Master of Financial Technology includes a real industry internship, and UOW India actively places students into roles matched to their goals. Prajwal was placed as a Product Strategist at eTon Solutions, a wealthtech firm; Cerin interns in the Economic Policy and Analysis division of IFSCA, GIFT City’s financial regulator - an opportunity that began with a UOW India capstone project.

Real, value-adding work from early on. Prajwal designed a sales flow that eTon Solutions moved to adopt and sits in meetings with ultra-high-net-worth clients. Cerin researches space financing as a new market for GIFT City and caught reporting errors worth millions in mismatches - work a manager credited with saving the authority money.

Both sides of finance and technology. On the private side: product strategy and management at FinTech and wealthtech firms. On the public side: economic policy, analysis and regulation at authorities such as IFSCA in GIFT City - plus banking, insurance, asset management and consulting across India and beyond.

FinTech combines finance with technology - coding, data and AI literacy - which is far harder to automate than generalist business knowledge. Students describe a focused curriculum built around three to four core domains rather than fifteen to twenty scattered subjects, taught the way industry actually works.

Students say the newness is an advantage. Small batches mean close access to faculty and industry, a globally recognised ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp of ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp degree, a Western curriculum, and lower fees than studying in Australia - all without leaving India.

GIFT City is India’s international financial services hub and home to IFSCA, the regulator overseeing cross-border finance. It concentrates global finance, FinTech and technology firms in one place - putting UOW India students within reach of both the companies building financial products and the authority that governs them.
