UOW appoints new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation)
Appointment signals continued commitment to research excellence
The ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµapp of ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµapp (UOW) has appointed Professor Alan Rowan as its next Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation), following an open and extensive international search.
Professor Rowan is an internationally renowned research leader, currently at the ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµapp of Queensland. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, and an Australian Research Council Laureate Fellow. At UQ, he has led the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN) and contributed to UQ’s broader research strategy and partnerships.
UOW Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Max Lu said the appointment comes at a pivotal time in the ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµapp’s evolution.
“Professor Rowan brings both scientific distinction and an inclusive, collaborative approach to research leadership. His commitment to people, mentorship and shared ambition will be instrumental as we deliver a research strategy with real-world impact,” Professor Lu said.
“As a member of the ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµapp Executive Board, Professor Rowan will play a key role in bringing our Vision 2035 and Strategy 2030 to life, strengthening UOW’s global research presence, excellence and driving innovation that matters to our communities and society both locally and globally.
Professor Rowan will commence at UOW in January 2026.
