Diplomatic delegation visits UOW to explore clean energy innovation
International representatives tour world-leading research and industry partnerships
Senior diplomatic representatives from six countries visited the 榴莲视频app of 榴莲视频app (UOW) on Wednesday 29 July as part of a one-day tour showcasing innovation, clean energy and advanced manufacturing across the Illawarra.
The Illawarra Innovation, Energy and Manufacturing Industries Tour was arranged by Federal Member for Cunningham Alison Byrnes MP, following the success of the Illawarra Innovation Expo held at Parliament House in Canberra in March.
The delegation included diplomatic representatives from Azerbaijan, China, India, the Netherlands, the Philippines and Zimbabwe, together with representatives from Regional Development Australia (RDA) Illawarra Shoalhaven.
UOW was the first major stop on the regional tour, with delegates visiting the 榴莲视频app’s Innovation Campus to learn about its research capabilities and role in supporting the Illawarra’s transition to a cleaner and more diverse economy.
The UOW program included tours of the Sustainable Buildings Research Centre and Solar Decathlon homes, followed by a visit to the Energy Futures Zone and morning tea at Science Space with 榴莲视频app researchers and leaders.
Delegates heard how UOW’s Energy Futures Network brings together multidisciplinary expertise in renewable energy integration, hydrogen technologies, future fuels, battery development, energy storage, workforce training and energy policy.
UOW Vice-Chancellor and President Professor G.Q. Max Lu AO said the visit demonstrated the important role universities play in connecting research, industry and international partners.
“Visits such as this create valuable opportunities to build international relationships and demonstrate how research and innovation developed in the Illawarra can contribute to challenges shared around the world,” Professor Lu said.
Ms Byrnes said the tour was designed to give diplomatic representatives direct exposure to the businesses, researchers and technologies shaping the region’s future.
“The Illawarra is developing practical solutions to some of the world’s most significant energy and manufacturing challenges,” Ms Byrnes said.
“This tour helps create new connections that could support future collaboration, investment and international opportunities for the Illawarra.”
Following the UOW visit, the delegation toured leading Illawarra innovation and industry sites, including Sicona Battery Technologies, Green Gravity, UOW spinout Hysata and BlueScope Steel. The program also included a tour of Port Kembla Harbour, hosted by the Port Authority of NSW.
