Cost-of-living relief and on-campus enrolment support offered as final study decisions loom

The ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp of ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp is offering Illawarra and South West Sydney prospective students new scholarships worth $8,500 each to help ease cost-of-living pressures and encourage them to study close to home as enrolment deadlines approach.

Under UOW’s new  Illawarra and Liverpool Community Enrolment Scholarship program, 25 scholarships are available to students from ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp, Kiama and Shellharbour who are commencing undergraduate study in 2026.

The announcement comes as UOW prepares to host an at its ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp campus on 28 January, giving students and families hands-on help to finalise offers, choose subjects and complete enrolment during the peak student enrolment decision period.

Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Growth and Global) Professor Joe Chicharo said the initiative was about supporting local students at a critical moment.

“Many Illawarra students want to stay close to home, but cost pressures can make that decision harder,” Professor Chicharo said.

“These scholarships are about removing barriers, keeping local talent in the region, and helping students build their futures right here in the Illawarra.”

The scholarship can be used towards essential study-related costs such as textbooks, technology, travel, uniforms or other everyday expenses, allowing students to focus on their studies from day one.
