Year 6 Discovery Days inspire aspirations at UOW Eurobodalla
On November 21 and 22, 2024, the ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµapp of ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµapp (UOW) Eurobodalla campus hosted its largest-ever Year 6 Discovery Days event, welcoming nearly 600 students from Milton to Narooma and out to Braidwood. Designed to spark interest in higher education and expand career horizons, the program offered hands-on experiences and insight into university life.
Students participated in a diverse range of activities, including investigating a mock crime scene, engaging in chemistry experiments with purple cabbage, exploring nursing facilities, trying out hairdressing and beauty skills at TAFE NSW, and even stepping into the roles of lawyers in a mock courtroom.
Feedback from students reflected the program's impact. One participant shared,
"I loved getting to try different subjects, and it gave me an idea about what I might like to do in the future."
Another student was enthused about the law session, saying,
"Being a lawyer was amazing - I got to experience what happens in a courthouse!"
Teachers also praised the day for its variety and engagement. One teacher noted,
"All activities were beneficial, catering to varying interests and giving students great insight into career choices."
Another highlighted the criminology session, saying it fostered "critical thinking, teamwork, and discussions."
By offering a taste of university life and a glimpse into different careers, Year 6 Discovery Days continue to inspire young minds and demystify the path to higher education, ensuring students leave with broadened aspirations and a sense of possibility for their futures.
