Materials Process Engineering Group

Overview

The Materials Process Engineering group of EMRS aims to contribute to the fundamentals of metallurgical processes and products. The group specialises in high-temperature processing and physical metallurgy with special emphasis on in-situ observations. They have unique facilities including a high-temperature laser-scanning confocal microscope and access to many other sophisticated instruments within the ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp of ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp and at collaborating organisations.

Projects

  • The impact of the peritectic phase transition on high-speed, thin-slab continuous casting of steel
  • In-situ X-ray and neutron diffraction studies of phase transitions and mechanical deformation in a variety of alloys
  • In-situ observations of high-temperature phase transitions in steel and titanium alloys using high-temperature microscopy
  • Surface hardening of steels
