If you have performed strongly in a Bachelor of Arts, you can extend your studies with an honours year and deepen your expertise in a chosen area. This additional year combines coursework and independent research, allowing you to explore a topic of interest in greater depth while developing advanced analytical, research and communication skills.
You will work closely with an academic supervisor to design and complete a substantial research project. Along the way, you build capability in locating, evaluating and using information from a range of sources, and strengthen your ability to articulate complex ideas clearly in both written and verbal forms.
The honours year also provides a pathway to further research study, while equipping you with highly valued skills in independent investigation, critical thinking and project management.

You may choose Honours to extend your academic and professional capabilities through a combination of coursework and independent research. The program develops advanced research, information literacy and communication skills, and includes a substantial research project completed under the supervision of an academic from the Faculty of Arts.
Working closely with a supervisor employed within the Faculty of Arts, you plan and deliver an independent research project, gaining experience in managing a substantial task and meeting key milestones. This culminates in an extended thesis of approximately 15,000–18,000 words, demonstrating your depth of knowledge, sustained analysis and ability to produce high-quality work to deadline. From a potential employer's perspective, whatever your topic, being able to demonstrate your ability to achieve a complex goal, meet deadlines, investigate independently, use resources effectively and write coherently will be highly regarded.
