Computer scientists create the software, systems and technologies that organisations rely on every day. From mobile applications and artificial intelligence to cybersecurity and digital infrastructure, they use computing to solve problems, develop new solutions and improve the way people, businesses and communities work.
The Bachelor of Computer Science (Dean's Scholar) offers a challenging and enriched educational experience for high-achieving students. You'll learn how computers, software and digital systems work, then apply that knowledge to solve practical problems, design innovative solutions and develop technology for a wide range of applications. You'll build foundations in programming, problem solving, networks, databases, web technologies and software development while learning how to work effectively in teams and communicate with project stakeholders.
As a Dean's Scholar student, you'll receive special privileges throughout your studies, including accelerated learning opportunities and academic mentoring. You'll complete the normal course requirements for the degree while participating in an enriched academic experience designed for high-achieving students. You will also be encouraged to continue your studies through Honours and research programs.
Choose from listed majors, or follow a broader advanced IT pathway. Graduates are prepared for careers in software development, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data analytics and other technology-focused roles across a wide range of industries.
Places are limited each year. After one year of full-time study in a relevant degree, you may be eligible to apply for a transfer into the Dean's Scholar degree if you achieve a weighted average mark (WAM) of 80.

You'll develop a strong understanding of how computers, software and digital systems work while learning how to apply computing theory to practical challenges. Your studies span programming, web technologies, data management, networks and communications, systems analysis, human-computer interaction and project management, giving you the foundation to design and develop technology solutions across a range of applications.
As your skills grow, you'll learn how to design algorithms, develop software, evaluate computer-based systems and apply industry-relevant tools and practices. Throughout the degree, you'll work on collaborative projects that strengthen your ability to communicate with stakeholders, contribute to teams and deliver technology solutions from planning through to implementation.
In your final year, you'll complete a capstone project that brings together learning from across your degree. Working as part of a team, you'll engage with a client or stakeholder and take a project from concept to delivery, gaining experience across the software development lifecycle. You'll also have opportunities to present your work at the School of Computing and Information Technologies annual autumn TechExpo, where final-year students showcase projects to academics, alumni and industry representatives.
Industry input helps keep the curriculum aligned with emerging technologies and workforce needs, while competitive opportunities such as international study broaden your experience beyond the classroom.
