If you’re planning to study at UOW immediately after finishing your HSC, International Baccalaureate (IB), or an interstate equivalent, you can apply for Early Admission to this course. Applications can be submitted via the UOW Early Admission website during the designated period, usually June – August each year.

If you’re a non-school leaver (e.g., completed Year 12 previously and/or have a TAFE qualification or equivalent), you can apply directly to UOW.

Overview

Creative practice helps you express ideas, tell stories and engage audiences. The arts help you understand people, cultures, societies and the forces shaping our changing world.

In the Bachelor of Creative Arts - Bachelor of Arts, you complete the requirements of both courses as separate areas of study. You select at least one major from the Bachelor of Creative Arts and at least one major from the Bachelor of Arts.

The Bachelor of Creative Arts develops confident, adaptable creatives through hands-on learning and engagement with the historical, theoretical and professional contexts of contemporary arts practice. You create original work while learning alongside award-winning artists, published authors, professional musicians, performers and designers.

The Bachelor of Arts explores people, cultures, ideas and societies. You examine complex issues, challenge assumptions and build valuable skills in research, critical thinking, communication and problem-solving.

This double degree allows you to complete two qualifications in less time and at a lower overall cost than studying each course separately. You graduate with the distinct knowledge and capabilities developed through each qualification.

The Bachelor of Creative Arts allows you to develop expertise through majors in Creative Writing, Music, Performance and Theatre, Visual Arts, or Visual Arts and Design. You create and present original work through performances, exhibitions, concerts and publications while developing technical skills, creative confidence and professional practice. Learning takes place in purpose-built facilities including recording studios, theatres, galleries and studio spaces.

In the Bachelor of Arts, you explore how different disciplines approach complex social, cultural, political and environmental challenges. Depending on your chosen major, you may engage with historical, literary, philosophical, political, legal, Indigenous, sociological or environmental perspectives while building skills in research, analysis and professional communication.

Both courses offer opportunities to broaden your perspective through internships, industry engagement and global experiences. By completing both qualifications, you graduate with creative expertise alongside broad disciplinary knowledge that can be applied across a wide range of industries and professional contexts.

  • Academic Entry Requirements

    Applicants must achieve the required score in a previous qualification, equivalent to completing at least 13 years of schooling in Australia.

    To succeed in your chosen course, you should have completed relevant subjects in senior high school or other qualifications. For more information, refer to UOW's Entry Requirements page.

  • Workload

    Full-Time Study Load

    As a full-time student, you can expect to commit around 48 hours of study per week. This includes class time and independent study. You may need to factor more time for examination study and practical work & placements.

    If you have completed prior studies or relevant professional experience, you can request course credit or subject exemptions to reduce the duration and cost of your program.
