Entry Requirements & Eligibility

The Bachelor of Education – The Early Years (Accelerated) is a prescribed full-time program designed specifically for diploma-qualified early childhood educators who have at least two years of full-time (or equivalent) experience working in an early childhood education and care setting.

If you meet the entry requirements, you may be eligible to transfer or apply:

  • Current UOW students enrolled in the first year of the four-year Bachelor of Education – The Early Years may apply to transfer. Applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Students from another university can submit a direct application to UOW. Eligibility and any credit will be assessed as part of the application process.
    If you're offered a place, you can also apply to have additional credit (beyond the standard 66 credit points) assessed by providing supporting documentation.

If the accelerated program isn't the right fit, UOW also offers the four-year Bachelor of Education – The Early Years, available online and at the ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµapp campus, with intakes commencing in the Autumn session (March).

Yes — a Statement of Service (SOS) is an essential requirement for your application to this course.

If your previous employer has closed or sold their business, we recommend reaching out to the previous owner or the new owner to request the document.

Your SOS does not need to include performance feedback. The SOS requires to be on company letterhead and include:

  1. Your name and job title
  2. The duration of your employment, including whether it was full-time or part-time (e.g. hours per week)
  3. Outline of duties or major tasks
  4. Signed and dated by your employer

You can submit multiple Statements of Service (SOS) from different employers, as long as the combined experience equals at least two years of full-time work.

Yes. Interstate applicants are welcome to apply.

You should discuss your eligibility with your employer (and/or state-based accreditation authorities) to ensure you meet any relevant professional requirements.

Please note: this course leads to an early childhood teacher education qualification for birth to 5 years.

Yes, you may still be eligible. However, you may be asked to demonstrate currency of learning against current learning outcomes.

The Faculty will support you through this process if you receive a conditional offer.

Course Structure & Delivery

This course is delivered entirely online and can be completed flexible outside of work hours. While most content is delivered asynchronously (pre-recorded), you will have the option to attend a synchronous (live online) community of practice once per week during each semester, scheduled outside of standard working hours, to connect with peers and the academic team. 

No. This is an accelerated program designed to be completed in two years, full-time. Subjects must be completed in the sequence outlined in the course handbook. If you would like to study part-time or at any time if you need to decrease your study load, you may enrol in or transfer to the Bachelor of Education - Early Years online degree. 

 

You will complete three to four subjects per session, which equates to approximately 10 hours of study per week.

Placements

You will complete approximately 80 days of placement, organised across four blocks over the two-year degree.

  • Educators may complete up to two placements within their current workplace, provided the service is rated at least ‘Meeting’ the National Quality Standard (NQS) and a Bachelor-qualified Early Childhood Teacher (ECT) is available to supervise the placement.
  • If an educator is employed within a service that is part of a larger organisation, the remaining placements may be completed at another service within the same organisation or network, and these may be undertaken on a paid basis.
  • Educators who are not currently employed in the field, or who are not part of a larger organisation, will be supported to access suitable placement opportunities.

Fees & Financial Support

This degree is offered as a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP), meaning a significant portion of tuition fees is subsidised by the Australian Government.

Fees are:

  • Charged per session based on enrolled subjects
  • Eligible for (deferred payment) or upfront payment

Student contribution amounts may vary each year, so total course costs cannot be confirmed in advance.

Eligible students may be able to receive financial support through the Australian Government's Commonwealth Prac Payment (CPP) while completing mandatory professional placements.

The CPP provides a weekly payment to eligible domestic students undertaking required placements in approved teaching, nursing, midwifery and social work courses. Eligibility depends on several factors, including your course, placement requirements and personal circumstances.

Credit & Transfers

Credit is assessed after offers are made.

Entry is based on holding a Diploma in Early Childhood Education (or equivalent) and two years’ relevant experience.

  • Current university students will receive a set amount of credit (typically 66 credit points).
  • Additional credit may be considered upon enrolment with supporting documentation.

Study Experience & Support

You will be paired with an experienced sector mentor who will support you throughout your studies.

The mentor will provide:

  • Guidance and professional insight
  • Academic and industry support
  • Ongoing encouragement across the two-year program

UOW provides a wide range of free support services to help you succeed throughout your studies.

These include:

  • International student support – dedicated services to help international students settle into university life and succeed in their studies.
  • IT, library and peer support – help with technology, library services, study resources and connecting with fellow students.
