Legislation and policies

Inspection and monitoring

Workplace inspections

Regular workplace inspections are important ensure the ongoing safety of the working environment. The frequency of inspections is dependent on the working environment and the activities undertaken in the area.

Monitoring

It is also important that plant and equipment undergo regular maintenance and checks dependent upon legislative and manufacturers requirements. This is to ensure that all plant and equipment is operating safely.

Review and audits

Regular reviews of the health and safety management system are required to ensure it remains effective and relevant to the organisation. Each area should conduct regular reviews of processes and procedures to ensure that they are working effectively.

The WHS unit also conducts regular audits to verify:

  • the level of compliance with planned arrangements, for example as stated in WHS documentation
  • whether the WHSMS has been properly implemented and maintained
  • the level of implementation is effective
