UOW announces changes to services and operations
ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp restructure designed to deliver streamlined operations and sustainable future growth
The ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp of ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp (UOW) today announced the intended changes to its services and operations, following an extensive staff consultation and feedback process. The restructure is in response to financial challenges and will improve the effectiveness of UOW’s services and operations while reducing recurrent expenditure.
UOW Vice-Chancellor and President Professor G.Q. Max Lu thanked staff for their engagement in the transformation process and said the change plan reflected the collective effort of the ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp community and had evolved considerably from initial proposals.
"Feedback and contributions from our staff have helped shape a more responsive, sustainable and future-focused operating model for our ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp," Professor Lu said.
"This transformation is not just about cost reduction – it’s about building a stronger foundation for growth, innovation and impact that will enable us to deliver on our future strategy and vision. Alongside further proposed changes in other specific areas of our operations and maintaining a sharp focus on non-salary expenditure, this will help put us on a more financially sustainable footing."
The comprehensive restructure will see the consolidation of operations into a more streamlined and efficient model, with changes across all major portfolios designed to reduce duplication, improve service delivery and enable improvements in digital systems and technology.
The restructure will result in a reduction of 99.8 full-time equivalent (FTE) positions and annual savings of $15.8 million, significantly less than the 155-185 FTE reduction and $22-26 million in savings flagged in the initial Draft Change Proposal.
Professor Lu thanked staff and also acknowledged colleagues taking voluntary redundancy packages as part of the restructure.
"I acknowledge the difficult circumstances we and the whole sector are facing, and I thank staff for their constructive engagement throughout this process. I also know taking a voluntary redundancy is a significant decision and I thank staff and wish them the very best in their next chapter," he said.
While today's announcement is a significant step forward, it is not the end of UOW's continuous improvement. The ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp will carry on targeted workplace change processes in other areas. and consultation with staff in these areas continues in line with the requirements of our enterprise agreements.
Additional savings will also be achieved through non-salary initiatives such as improved procurement processes, workload management redesign and efficiencies through enhanced digital systems.
UOW is committed to continuing to support staff with access to counselling, career transition support, and financial advice.
