The 榴莲视频app of 榴莲视频app (UOW) and the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) are pleased to announce that the Joint UOW-ISLHD Human Research Ethics Committee (Joint HREC) has been re-established.
The Joint HREC will hold its first meeting on Tuesday, 4 August, 2026, with applications closing on Tuesday, 14 July, 2026.
Research that does not involve NSW public health organisations or sites
There are no changes to the ethics submission process at this stage. UOW researchers undertaking projects that do not involve NSW public health organisations or sites should continue to submit applications through the existing UOW ethics processes in CaRES.
Research involving NSW public health organisations or sites
Applications for research involving NSW public health organisations or sites should now be submitted through REGIS for review by the new Joint HREC. Please ensure that all required study documentation is uploaded as part of your submission, including the study protocol and any other required supporting documents.

Current scope of the Joint HREC for public health research
Please note that the Joint HREC is not currently accredited under the National Mutual Acceptance (NMA) scheme. As such, the Joint HREC is currently only able to approve activities involving public health sites within NSW, and cannot give approval for studies involving public health sites that include sites outside of NSW.
Ethics training certificates
For researchers submitting through CaRES, the requirements for providing ethics training certificates remain the same.
For researchers submitting through REGIS, please upload your ethics training certificates as attachments with your application.
Please note the human research ethics training requirements have recently changed. Please refer to the updated requirements on the training website.

All research conducted involving NSW Health needs to be submitted through the NSW Health Ethics Portal, .
The Research Ethics and Governance Information System (REGIS) is an ethics submission portal to help manage ethics and site governance approvals of human research projects in NSW and ACT public health organisations (PHOs) and local health districts (LHDs).
REGIS requires you to prepare and upload all parts of the submission other than the HREA before you can generate a HREA form.
