Student elections

Student involvement at the ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµapp of ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµapp is essential to ensuring student welfare, education and experience remain at the heart of what we do.

Student representatives play a vital role in our community – bringing their perspectives to faculties, campuses and student associations, and working in partnership with staff to enhance the learning and lived experience of UOW students.

Students deserve to be represented, so get involved and make your voice count.

2026 Academic Senate Committees Election

These four committees report to the ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµapp’s peak academic body, the Academic Senate, and play an important role in recommending improvements to the quality of your courses and your overall university experience.

  1. Collaborative Delivery Oversight Committee: This Committee oversees the quality assurance of courses delivered in partnership with another entity, including an overseas university. It also oversees the conduct of international student recruitment agents to ensure they comply with relevant standards.

  2. Course Quality Committee: This Committee scrutinises new course proposals to ensure they meet all standards, including entry standards, and the outcomes of cyclical course reviews.

  3. Research and Graduate Research Committee: This Committee oversees polices and standards relating to research and graduate research. This includes monitoring the requirements for Higher Degrees by Research (HDR) admission, supervision, research integrity, academic progress and examination.

  4. Teaching and Learning Committee: This Committee oversees academic policies and standards relevant to teaching and learning, including those related to the student academic experience.

There are 6 student positions available across the committees as follows:

Collaborative Delivery Committee
  • 1 student
Course Quality Committee
  • 2 students
Research and Graduate Research Committee
  • 1 Higher Degree Research (HDR) student
Teaching and Learning Committee
  • 1 postgraduate coursework student
  • 1 onshore international student

Each position is a 2 year term from 1 July, 2026 to 30 June, 2028.

Each Committee meets 4 - 5 times each year.  Meetings are generally held on the ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµapp campus, but online attendance is welcomed.  Becoming a member of one of the Committees will automatically entitle you to become a member of the , UOW's peak student advisory group to the Vice-Chancellor. 

To be eligible as a candidate for the student positions, you must not be employed as as academic or professional staff member of the ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµapp at 0.5 FTE or greater.

To be eligible for one of the following committees you must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree or a graduate certificate, graduate diploma or masters by coursework degree at a UOW onshore campus.

  • Teaching and Learning Committee
  • Course Quality Committee
  • Collaborative Delivery Oversight Committee

To be eligible for the following committee you must be enrolled in a PhD, professional doctorate or Masters by Research degree at a UOW onshore campus.

Academic Senate is the peak body for advising the ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµapp Council and the Vice-Chancellor on academic matters and broad issues affecting academic excellence at the ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµapp. 

As a student member of the Academic Senate you will learn about how complex organisations make decisions, and how to work with others to understand problems and develop new solutions. This is a great opportunity to develop skills for your career outside the ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµapp and gain UOWx recognition

As a student member of Academic Senate, you will also hold an ex officio role on the Student Advisory Council

Elections are being held for Regional and Metropolitan Campus Student Representatives for one-year terms commencing in January 2026.  

As a Regional or Metro Campus Representative you will connect with students, staff and community, and ensure the unique interests of these campuses are represented. This is a great opportunity to develop skills for your career outside the ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµapp and gain UOWx recognition

Elections are being held for SMAH, ASSH, EIS and BAL Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Onshore International Student Representatives for two-year terms commencing in January 2026.

Faculty student representatives participate in faculty governance activities, including Faculty meetings and events. It will be a critical time for Student Representation as UOW begins to implement a new faculty structure after the recent transformation. Representatives will have an active role in shaping how UOW serves students into the future. This is a great opportunity to develop skills for your career outside the ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµapp and gain UOWx recognition
